India Timeline Instructions and Questions


  Directions: Create and complete a timeline that describes the different civilizations of ancient India.  Use the following dates.  Be sure to include a title, written information about each date and an illustration for each date.  See pages 380 through 386, and 412 through 425 for information:
·     
          7,000 B.C. Farmers began growing crops in hills near the Indus River System
·       3,000 B.C  Cities began to develop on the broad plains of the Indus Valley
·       1,700 B.C. Indus valley civilizations break down
·       1,500 B.C Aryans joined the Indians
·       500 B.C.  More than a dozen kingdoms and republics covered the Ganges Plain 
·       321 B.C. Chandragupta conquers Magaha and founds the Murya Empire
·       305 B.C.  Chandragupta ruled much of the subcontinent ( Murya Empire)
·       185 B.C.  The last Maurya emperor is killed 
·       A.D. 320  Chandra Gupta came into power over a kingdom in the Ganges Basin. ( Gupta Empire)  
·       A.D. 540 The Last Gupta ruler died

3 – Who were the Aryans?
4 – What was life like for the Aryans?
5 – Why was Chandragupta Maurya important?
6 – How did Chandragupta Maurya maintain his power over his empire?
7 – Why was Chandra Gupta important?

8 – How did the Gupta Empire compare to the Maurya Empire?
